REVIEW: Heb ik mijn Bragi Bluetooth Wireless ‘The Headphone’
teruggekeerd, staat bekend om hun ongelooflijk succesvolle $ 3,4 miljoen Kickstarter -campagne die in 2014 hun originele Dash Wireless -hoofdtelefoons lanceerde. leveren met dat product.
De hoofdtelefoon
Het lijkt erop dat ze niet veel hebben geleerd, afgaande op de release van hun tweede regel, de vreselijk genaamd ‘The Headphone’. Oorspronkelijk bestelde ik een paar bij lancering (5 september) voor een beloofde levering van november. Dit kwam en ging, maar Bragi verzekerde de pre-order klanten dat ze op tijd voor Kerstmis zouden hebben.
Toen kondigde Bragi op 19 december ook aan dat zij ook niet aan deze beloofde levering zouden voldoen. De laatste belediging was dat deze grof PDF werd aangeboden aan mensen die wachtten om hen te cadeau doen waarin werd verklaard “… kan worden afgedrukt, ingesloten in een envelop en achtergelaten onder de boom”. Hey Bragi, druk de onderstaande afbeelding af en plaats deze in een envelop. Bewaar de verandering.
Hoe dan ook, ze zijn eindelijk hier, dus laten we proberen mijn ergernis voor nu opzij te zetten en te kijken of de ‘de hoofdtelefoon’ eigenlijk goed is of niet.
Wat zit er in de doos?
De 2 eenheden die ‘de hoofdtelefoon’ vormen (die op aarde dacht dat dit een goede naam was) zijn volledig draadvrij en komen in een plastic doos die dient als de lader en draagtas (daarover meer daarover). Er is een micro -USB -kabel inbegrepen, maar u moet uw eigen USB -oplader vinden.
Er zijn 3 sets tips voor oren van verschillende grootte, 2 silicium en 1 speciale ‘comply’ schuimset die bedoeld zijn om het beste op je oren te vormen.
Functies
Ik ben dol op het idee van kleine hoofdtelefoons zoals deze en het is gemakkelijk om de vrijheid te onderschatten die draadloos brengt. Het is niet moeilijk om een tijd te zien waarop ze misschien zo klein zijn dat ze bijna onzichtbaar worden, bijna als implantaten, waar we onze digitale assistenten met ons kunnen horen praten zonder dat iemand anders het weet.
De ‘hoofdtelefoon’ mist veel functies van het dashboard. Alle fitnessfunctionaliteit is verdwenen, net als de ingebouwde opslag van 4 GB voor muziek plus de gyroscoop, versnellingsmeter en andere sensoren. Maar dat is allemaal oké. Het dashboard probeerde te slim te zijn voor zijn eigen bestwil.
Een van de dingen die ook ontbreekt, is echter meer een sleutel. In tegenstelling tot veel van de concurrentie in deze sector, bevat de case geen ingebouwde batterij. Je moet ze nog steeds in deze ‘laadkast’ plaatsen (ze klikken goed op hun contacten met magneten), maar je moet de behuizing vervolgens aansluiten op een stroombron. Hopelijk produceert Bragi in de toekomst een batterij -accessoire.
Over opladen gesproken, het duurt iets minder dan 2 uur om de ingebouwde 100 mAh lithiumpolymeerbatterij op te laden van leeg en dit geeft tot 6 uur in gebruik (standby-tijd 250 uur). Het batterijdniveau wordt rechtsboven op de iPhone weergegeven wanneer deze wordt aangesloten.
Ze ondersteunen elke smartphone, tablets, computer of ander apparaat met het A2DP Bluetooth -profiel (A2DP V1.3, Hands Free Profile V1.6, Headset Profile V1.2) en onderhoudt een solide verbinding met mijn iPhone. U kunt alleen verbinding maken met 1 apparaat tegelijk, hoewel het de laatste 4 kan onthouden.
Apple Earpods (en dus AirPods) blijven niet in mijn oren. Ik lijk de vereiste inkeping aan de onderkant van mijn nokken te missen om ze in te houden en ze vallen er gewoon uit, zelfs als ik stil sta. De hoofdtelefoon daarentegen past bij me goed, blijf op zijn plaats en is behoorlijk comfortabel.
Als u de video onderaan deze pagina bekijkt, laat de gebruiker de bedieningselementen op de rechteroorpijp licht maken, maar dit is misleidend. You have to give either of the 3 tiny buttons a good push, meaning you are forcing the headphone into your ear which can be a little uncomfortable.
You use these controls to play/pause (single click of bottom button), switch between tracks (double click the bottom button for next track, triple click for previous) and to take phone calls.
You can summon Siri (GoogleNow, Cortana) for voice commands (play me the top hits from 1980), all without having to remove your device from your pocket.
You can also activate the ‘Audio Transparency’ feature which allows you to add in a little ambient noise to the mix to be better aware of your surroundings, especially useful if you are a runner or cyclists perhaps.
On windy days you hear a fair bit of rustling noise though as the air hits the auditory microphones. as well as these left and right external mics there’s an EarBone microphone too and callers say I sound a little ‘different’ but good.
Muziek?
So how do they sound for music?
With Knowles balanced Armature speakers (Frequency range:20 – 20.000Hz) A2DP profile, AAC and SBC audio codec, the Headphone delivers a rich, dynamic stereo experience anywhere, anytime.
That sounds terrific doesn’t it. but when I first listened to EDM and electronic music the Bragi’s bass was very disappointing.
However things got much better for me when I swapped over to those Comply memory foam tips. You can maximise the bass by ensuring they are well into your ears and sealed properly. The foam definitely improved both the bass and the comfort for me.
With these tips fitted they are a bit more finicky about snapping into the charger though and usually require a push to squeeze the foam to allow the contacts to seat properly.
They don’t go as loud as I like and I know from experience that this sort of headphone needs to go much louder when listening to spoken word (like watching a movie) during a flight. luckily my video playing app of choice Infuse can boost the volume.

Our ‘The Headphone’ cost $119 on a launch special, but now retails for $149. even at this price they are still pretty much the cheapest in class though. They’re a bit cheaper than Apple AirPods, have better battery life, arguably better controls and perhaps best of all don’t make you look like Dork of Borg. Here’s some of the closest competition…

Het vonnis
Despite the silly name and blundered launch they’re not bad then. I ended up re-writing parts of this review as I almost returned them for a refund before I changed to the Comply tips.
I’d still like more bass and for them to go a bit louder. however I’m already using them enough (often just the right ear in to watch youtube etc) to justify the £100 I paid for them on the launch special so I’m going to keep them.
Wat is het volgende?
Perhaps it’s unrealistic to hope that minimalist models like this can ever sound as good as ‘proper’ headphones. After a couple of years I can still highly recommend the similarly priced Jabra Revo Wireless (read my review here) The more headphones I listen to the more I think the Jabras are hands down the biggest wireless bluetooth bargain around.
There are three relatively new bad boys Bluetooth headphones that are making a lot of waves. The Bose QuietComfort 35, the Sennheiser PXC 550 and the Sony MDR-1000X. maybe it’s time to bite the bullet, raise my budget and try one of them. My hunt for the ultimate wireless headphones continues.
